Megapipe Technical Support: Childproofing

There is probably countless software devoted to childproofing computers. Shown below are two methods. The first can be achieved with Internet Explorer 6.0. The second option is to purchase proprietary software. Note that neither option is full-proof and nothing replaces parental supervision and guidance when using the Internet.

Childproofing with Internet Explorer 6.x using Rating

These directions will vary a little with earlier versions of Internet Explorer.

  1. Open Internet Explorer 6.0.
  2. Go to the Tools menu and choose "Internet Options."
  3. In "Internet Options," click on the "Content" tab.
  4. Under "Content Advisor," choose "Enable."
When you click "Enable," a window will pop up so you may customize the settings however you want.

Proprietary Software

Proprietery software may be a more effective way to childproof your machine, but it is not full-proof. The following software is popular for childproofing computers. Megapipe does not test this software or review the content it blocks or allows.

  1. Netnanny
  2. SafeSurf
  3. Cybersitter
  4. CyberPatrol
